What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese form of complementary or alternative medicines. It is a spiritual, vibrational healing practice used to promote balance throughout the human system. Reiki does not involve physical manipulation or the ingestion or application of any substances, but works with the subtle vibrational field thought to surround and penetrate the body. Currently Reiki is practiced all over the world with over 1 million people in the United States alone actively practicing Reiki for wellbeing and improved health.
Reiki is a strong, yet gentle energy. It works well with other modalities and produces no harmful side effects when paired with other medicine.
What to expect during a session:
After brief paper work, you will be able to ask questions in an informal setting & look around the clinic. When you are ready to begin you will be asked what problems you want to focus on (example: headaches, weight loss, etc) and to rate your pain level at this time. Then you will be asked to lay or sit on a massage table for the Reiki session. You will be fully clothed for the session, you will however be asked to turn off your cell phone, remove your jewelry & any metal objects in your pockets. It's okay if you have metal replacements parts in your body, BUT we cannot treat you if you have a pace maker.
As you lay on the table the Reiki Master moves around your body keeping their hands 2-3 inches above you. We do not ever touch you. You may feel a tingle, a vibration, a chill or experience a wave of warmth go over your body. Some people report feeling a "pulling" like a magnet. Most people report a deep feeling of relaxation. All this is normal. You also may not feel any sensation. This does not mean anything is wrong with you, everyone is different and relates to their body differently.
Most people report feeling very relaxed after the session, some people even sleep while on the table!
After the session we drink water & you will be asked to rate your pain level. You can share your experience and ask more questions.
A few common questions about Reiki:
Will my Health Insurance pay for reiki?
Currently Reiki is only covered by health insurance when it is part of a treatment such as physical therapy, massage, or palliative care that is covered by your insurance or when it is delivered by a nurse or licensed care professional as part of routine care during a hospital stay. So, if you visit a Reiki practitioner, plan on paying out of pocket. I offer special rates for Seniors and other types of situations If you need to work out a payment plan, have cancer, or are on a limited budget we have programs at Serenity to help you. Please ask for more information.
