Amethyst

Amethyst is one of the most popular stones. It is found in jewelry, made into lovely carvings and is sold as rough clusters. Amethyst can range from violet to deep purple to almost black in color. Most amethyst has been dyed to a darker color.
Luckily amethyst is very common and found in any places. Most of the amethyst used in jewelry comes from Brazil and Uruguay. It also can be found in South Korea, Canada and the United States.
Amethyst is thought to purify any space of negative vibrations. (Most energy workers either wear or have amethyst in their treatment rooms.) and did you know it has long been used to treat addictions? It is thought to be helpful in ending bad habits and promotes a feeling of calmness and safety.
The ancient Romans believed that Amethyst could cure poison and slow the effects of alcohol. Amethyst is said to also strengthen the immune system and help heal imbalances of the respiratory tract. It is also thought to be good for healing skin conditions and bring about mental clarity. It is interesting to note that the name amethyst translated from Greek means, "a stone that can protect the wearer from intoxication!"
If you are starting a stone collection always include amethyst.
